Band Reminders:

May 29 - Elementary All-Star Band at Williamson HS - Select 5th and 6th Grade Band Members - concert at 1pm.

We're getting ready for an again-expanded season of Southern Tioga Marching Band! All band students currently in grades 6-11 have received a sign-up form (and it's also available on the website here...) http://www.southerntioga.org/Pages/Schools/stmb.htm We are ready for a great new year including trips to away games, regional performances and competitions, and a full week of "Band Camp" rehearsals at the school with guest experts on all instruments - August 11-15. We want every band member from Blossburg to take advantage of this great playing opportunity and get involved! The community is already excited about having a marching band for football games, and our plan is to improve immensely this year in size and quality. Don't forget - while we're obviously encouraging all current instrumentalists to get involved, even those with no experience at all can join - we'll find a spot for you! Fill out the registration form by June 2 and return it to Mr. Ruth.

On May 29th at 11 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm, a Weis Market dietician will be giving store tours of the Wellsboro Weis for the purpose of highlighting ways to shop and eat healthier. The tours are open to the first 12 to 15 people per time slot that call (723-0520) or email (tcp32@epix.net) indicating interest. Those that attend the tours will receive a $10 Weis card as a reward for giving up an hour of their day to learn about ways of incorporating healthier foods and recipes into their lifestyle.

Anna Wieczorek,10, a fourth grader at Blossburg Elementary school donated 10 inches of her hair to Locks of Love. Anna is the Daughter of Mr & Mrs. Jeffrey Osborn and James Wieczorek also of Blossburg. Anna has always wanted to help other people and this will help a child who has cancer. It takes 10 pony tails to make one wig, Anna wants to let her hair grow again so she can donate it. We are so proud of her. Way to go Anna!!

North Penn 8th grade students attended Penn College Career Day in March. The students were able to attend labs and workshops in a variety of career fields offered by Penn College. Some of the favorite workshops attended by students were Hands on Paramedics, Get the Scoop on Plastics, Cooking and Tasting with Chef Paul, CSI Madigan and Health/Fitness Assessments. It was exciting to explore “the possibilities,” as one student stated. Thank you to Mr. David for allowing us the opportunity to do so!

The 10th grade Geometry students have been using the new in-room computers provided through the District’s CFF grant. It is wonderful to have ready access to the internet. They are currently researching the Golden Ratio and where it is found in art, architecture, nature and the human body.

Consumer Math class has been using the computers in the classroom to research topics such as buying a computer and preparing taxes. They used the First Citizens National Bank website to research various real-life scenarios from making purchases to budgeting.

The 7th and 8th graders have been using the computers for research, student-prepared presentations, and for concept review in a variety of forums. Ready access to web sights such as “The Futures Channel” in the classroom gives students insight into a wide variety of career opportunities and the application of mathematics in the workplace.
