Happy Birthday to Trace Dickinson, who will be 18 on April 27. Susan Slocum will be 5 on April 28, and can't wait for her Tinkerbell birthday party!
There will be a chicken barbeque in Blossburg on Saturday, April 25, at the Bloss Holiday Market. The food will be ready beginning at 10:30 AM. This sale will benefit the Iron Heads Motorcycle Club and is hosted by Sleezy Construction.
The Blossburg Borough Spring Cleanup is upon us! Items for pickup should be placed on the curb beginning Saturday, April 25. All items must be out by Tuesday night, April 28. All spring cleanup items will be picked up by Friday, May 1. If you do not place your items at the curb or, if they are mixed with the weekly garbage, they will NOT be picked up.
Please remember to comply with the requirements. If any items are not picked up, you may call the borough office at 638-2452 to inquire. In order to comply with landfill requirements, you must adhere to the following rules:
(1) NO TIRES (new regulations from the state)
(2) Limit of two (2) pickup truck loads of trash per household.
(3) No wood (such as remodeling materials) unless cut into short lengths and bundled so that
ONE person may pick up. NO WHOLE BUILDINGS.
(4) Grass and leaves must be put into containers (bags) separate from other items. If stones,
sticks, etc. are mixed in with grass and leaves, they will not be picked up.
(5) Brush must be cut or broken into small pieces that are easily handled.
(6) Metal must be separated from other items.
(7) Refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioning units will be billed at $5.00, due to regulations at
the landfill.
If these requirements are not met, free removal will not be available to you. This is an expensive project; your cooperation is needed if this free program is to be continued. Feel free to call Borough Manager at 638-2452 with any questions. Thanks to everyone who has been helpful in the past: we appreciate your efforts.
The Blossburg town-wide yard sale is quickly approaching, and many sales have already been registered for this event. To have your sale listed (no charge), contact Barb Slocum at 570-656-6597. VIBE wlll be creating a map of sales for shoppers who come to town looking for bargains.
The TCCCC and Hillside Rod & Gun Club are sponsoring the annual stream/roadside cleanup on Saturday, May 9. We will meet at the Hillside Rod & Gun Club parking lot at 8:00 AM and head to various locations throughout the area. Lunch will be provided for all participants.
The TCCCC is sponsoring two $1,000 scholarships this year for students pursuing careers in environmentally-oriented fields. The Linda Lutomski Environmental Scholarship is offered to a graduating senior in the Southern Tioga School District. The TCCCC Environmental Scholarship is available to graduating seniors from any high school in Tioga County. Scholarship applications are available from guidance counselors or may be requested by emailing the TCCCC at tcccc@tcccc-inc.org . Mark your calendar for the 21st annual reunion of graduates and attendees of the Blossburg and North Penn High School. The reunion will be on Saturday, August 1, 2009. Members of classes ending in "4" and "9" are especially urged to attend! To make sure your current name and address are correct on the Alumni Association’s list, go to http://www.blossburg.org/alumni and send your information. Mark "yes" if you would like your name added to the alumni directory.
