North Penn High School will celebrate homecoming this Friday, Oct. 5. First, the student council will sponsor a Block Party on Morris Street in front of the high school from 3:30 p.m.until 5:00 p.m with games, a dunking booth, food and drinks. This is an important fund-raising event for many student organizations, so please join the students in this new venture - it's the first time it has been open to the public. At 6:00 p.m. the homecoming parade will begin at the high school and will wind its way to Island Park. Finally, at 7:00 p.m., the Panther football team will host the South Williamsport Mounties at Jones Memorial Field at Island Park. Sleezy Construction & Barbecue Co. will be cooking chickens to sell Saturday, Oct. 6 at 10:30 a.m. in front of the Holiday Market to benefit the North Penn graduating class of 2008.

School is closed Oct. 8 for teacher in-service.

A new support group for families of children who learn differently will meet Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 7:00 p.m. in the community room of Blossburg Memorial Library. If you know or suspect your child has a learning disability or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD/ADD), please join us to learn, share and spend time with other parents and family members who understand what you are experiencing. The group will also meet Nov. 14 and Dec. 12, same time and place. For more information, contact cmbp15@yahoo.com.

Story hour for preschool children will start Thursday, Oct. 4, at 10 a.m. at Blossburg Memorial Library. The Friends of the Library will hold its third annual book sale Oct. 15-20, in the community room of the library. To donate books, contact the library at (570) 638-2197 or blosslib@epix.net. Genealogy classes for adults will be held on Saturday mornings at the library. Please contact the library for more information or to register for the class. The library offers free internet access - you can bring your own laptop and use the library's wireless internet, or you can use one of the library's computers. Blossburg Borough Council's monthly meeting will be held Oct. 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the council room of the borough building at 245 Main Street. For past meeting minutes, visit http://www.blossburg.org/boro/minutes.

A food pantry is held the third Monday each month from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Blossburg. For more information, contact Betty Johnson at (570) 638-2805.

T.O.P.S. (Take off Pounds Sensibly) meets every Monday at the First United Methodist Church of Blossburg. Weigh-in is at 5 p.m.

Blossburg BINGO! Every Monday bingo is held at St. Mary's Hall, 6:30 p.m.

Blossburg V.I.B.E. sponsors a weekly farmers' market in the Riverside Plaza parking lot every Saturday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. On the last Friday of the month, there is also a flea market.
